About Me
Bio: My name is Kristine Best and I graduated from Marist with a B.A. in Psych/ Special Education and teaching certifications for Childhood (1-6) and Students with Disabilities (1-6). I completed my student teaching in first grade general education class at Norwood Elementary School and in a second grade inclusion class at C.B. Warring Elementary school. I earned my MA in Educational Psychology from Marist College in May 2013.
While at Marist College, I played on The Marist Women’s Basketball team and had a great five year experience while earning my undergraduate and graduate degree.
Teaching Experience: During the Spring of 2011, I had the opportunity to student teach in a 1st grade general education at Norwood Elementary School in Northport, New York. This first placement was for six weeks and my cooperating teacher was Mrs. Caruso. This class was made up of 22 general education students. This school is high in socioeconomic status. The first week of being at Norwood I was able to see the routines and procedures that went on in the classroom and in the school. My teacher then let me take control of the class and I start to become responsible for teaching more of the lessons every day. This was a great opportunity to learn how to teach every day and be responsible for teaching every day. During the Fall of 2011, I had the opportunity to student teach in a 2nd grade inclusion class at C.B. Warring Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, New York. This second placement was for six weeks and my two cooperating teachers were Mrs. Letterrii and Mrs. Zolko. This class was made up of 16 general education students and 11 special education students. This school was of very low socioeconomic status. This placement was amazing because it was much more challenging then my first placement in many ways. I really learned a lot through these two amazing experiences and I can’t wait to have my own classroom.
Future Plans: My ultimate goal is to get a teaching job and be able to provide students with meaningful experiences which will help them be successful in the future.
