Standard 2: The candidate understands how students learn and develop, and provides learning opportunities that support the intellectual, social, and personal development of all students.
Standard 3: The candidate understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners. Standard 5: The candidate uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students' development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills. Standard 8: The candidate uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation. Standard 9: The candidate models effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom. Standard 10: The candidate understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the learner. Standard 11: The candidate is a reflective practitioner who continually assesses the effects of choices and actions on others. This reflective practitioner actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally and utilizes the assessment and professional growth to generate more learning for more students. |
Teachers need to learn how their students develop and learn and how to present the material to students so that they are able to display their knowledge. Teachers must give and encourage students to make connections and build off what they already know. Teachers should encourage students to give positive feedback to their peers. Students should be encouraged to talk amongst each other about their work.
Teachers approach to instruction and learning that gives students multiple options for taking in information and making sense of ideas. Teachers provide students with opportunities to show their individual abilities by giving them choices for assessments. Teachers are able to adapt to different learning abilities and diverse learners. Teacher is able to integrate multicultural concepts into their lessons. Teacher is able to use a variety of strategies and instructional methods which will help students develop and be challenged with new thinking skills which will help to engage students as well as keep them engaged. Teacher will also use multi-media as a different tool to keep students involved. Teachers will get to know their students so that they are better able to motivate them based on their interests. Teachers are able to use student’s interests to create a motivating learning environment where students are actively engaged in their learning experiences. Teachers will be able to create a smoothly run environment which eliminates distractions. Teacher will model specific behaviors that they want students to display throughout the year. Teachers will use a variety of media communication tools to foster active inquiry and interaction amongst the classroom and school community. Students will be able to get and give feedback from peers and teachers. Teachers use many assessment tools and strategies which let students know and reflect on their development. Teacher creates rubrics and collects data which allows students to see and understand what is specifically expected. Teacher examines and reflects on all aspects of student’s development so that instruction can be tailored effectively for the students benefit. Teacher is able to reflect on their instruction to see what worked and what did not. Teacher wants to grow and learn from others to improve upon their personal teaching skills. Teacher is able to adjust and learn from their actions and techniques. Teachers want to improve their teaching so that students learning is maximized. |
